Khajuraho this year

Every year the Khajuraho Festival of Dance – one of the most prestigious cultural events in the country is held here.

The village called Khajuraho would have been nondescript but for the group of Hindu, Buddhist and Jain temples in and around that have endowed it with international fame and recognition.

Every year the Khajuraho Festival of Dance – one of the most prestigious cultural events in the country is held here. For seven days these ancient shrines belonging to the Chandella dynasty spring to life, as the festival of dance takes place from Feb 25 to March 3.

Started by the Madhya Pradesh government in 1975 it now entices the whole world. Over 350 of the country’s most talented classical and modern dancers have performed here. The most accomplished dancers in the country consider a performance in Khajuraho as the opportunity of a lifetime.

India’s seniormost Bharatnatyam dancer, choreographer, researcher, musician, and composer – Prof. C.V. Chandra Shekhar was the winner of the Kalidas Samman Award from the Govt. of Madhya Pradesh. He belied his age (75) to present a rhapsody in the purest form of dance rarely seen today.

Mumbai’s dancer-couple, Mitali and Raul performed a blend of Bharata Natyam and Odissi with the choreographic brilliance of Deepak Mazumdar within the traditional framework, giving their performance a new meaning.
